Announcing the Living the Next Economy Convergence 2016!

Living the New Economy Favianna Art_SmallThe Living the Next Economy Oakland Collaborative is excited to announce the Living the Next Economy 2016 Convergence, to be held at Oakstop from October 21-23!

In 2014, over 250 people came together for the first Living the Next Economy Convergence in Oakland to create a vision for an economy in service of people and the planet. In 2016, a broad coalition of community leaders and social entrepreneurs are hosting a follow-up convergence focused on radically inclusive economic, racial, and environmental justice solutions in Oakland.

Our theme is inspired by the #BlackLivesMatter movement and others’ call to overcome systemic racism that to this day deprives Black Americans, indigenous peoples, and others of their inherent dignity and fair share of Oakland’s economic prosperity. Through interactive, participatory activities, we will shine the light on what’s working, what’s not, and what more we can do to build the inclusive, vibrant Oakland of our dreams.

This year’s Living the Next Economy Convergence will offer three days of engaging, interactive sessions, addressing issues of critical concern to the Oakland community. Our goals are to:

  • Provide opportunities for participants to deeply engage on issues of greatest concern to them.
  • Provide a space for people to meet other people around shared goals and opportunities.
  • Create opportunities for new projects / initiatives to come out of the convergence and for participants and the broader community to engage with those projects / initiatives after the convergence.
